Catastrophic Impairment Ratings are provided and a Catastrophic Determination Analysis is carried out based on all of the assessments.
File reviews are paper-based reviews provided by highly qualified medical and healthcare professionals to address specific issues, such as a proposed line of treatment or assessment . Each review includes a synopsis of the relevant details, answers to specific questions, and a clinical opinion that is well substantiated and provides any applicable recommendations.
This service includes a complete review of the case-to-date, including medical reports, tests, treatments and available opinions. Based on a complete medical history, functional inquiry and physical examination, an opinion regarding the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis is provided. Recommendations are made regarding rehabilitation, treatment and other case management issues relevant to the specific referral. Capital Vocational Specialists works with assessment specialists in a number of medical specialties and rehabilitation specialties.

This intervention is a functional fitness for work assessment used by an employer to best place prospective employees within their organization. It can be customized to an employer’s needs.
CVS can assist an employer to identify a return-to-work strategy(ies) for an injured employee in order to improve worker functioning and safety, based on a detailed job demands analysis (JDA) or job site analysis (JSA), a functional abilities evaluation (FAE) and the identification of any medical restrictions.
A Functional Abilities Evaluation evaluates an individual’s physical and functional abilities. More specifically, it identifies a workers general physical and functional profile as it relates to an individual’s work and his/her ability to return to a specific job or to a particular type of employment.
Capital Vocational Specialists conducts functional abilities evaluations utilizing the ERGOS Work Simulator administered by a trained Rehabilitation Specialist (Kinesiologist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist). The ERGOS is a state-of-the-art computerized simulator designed to measure an individual’s safe work capacity and to provide information that includes (but is not limited) to the following physical tasks: lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, working overhead, forward reaching, low level working, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, strength testing, both static and dynamic, finger and manual dexterity skills, seated range of motion, sitting/standing tolerance, and workday tolerance. Consistency of effort is assessed by calculating co-efficient of variation scores and observed physiological and biomechanical changes to ensure validity of the functional data
The ERGOS incorporates the highest Canadian and International quality standards for objective testing (the Canadian Classification and Dictionary of Occupations (CCDO), the Methods-Time-Measurement system (MTM), the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) standards, and the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT). The FAE can be conducted in either English or French and includes an extensive intake and exit interview.
CVS maintains an ERGOS Work Simulator on premise.

A Job Demands Analysis (JDA) is a systematic assessment to quantify and evaluate the physical, environmental and cognitive demands of a job. The essential and non-essential tasks of a job are identified and measured directly when possible through a site visit with the worker and his employer/supervisor (JSA – job site analysis). The JDA will provide quantification of the workplace demands including frequency of workplace activities, weights, distances, heights, positions, etc. The JDA will also include observations related to other workplace factors including workstation design and psychosocial factors, which may impact the workplace environment.
A Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) identifies the physical requirements of an employment position based on a client’s description of his job and/or through direct observations and objective measurements, as well as a description of similar jobs in the Canadian Classification and Dictionary of Occupations (CCDO) or National Occupations Dictionary (NOC). The demands of the job are clearly specified so that there is a basis for comparison with an employee’s abilities.
For those individuals who have difficulty returning to their job following an injury, illness, or disability, this service will identify alternate employment options. The individual's pre-accident/illness worker qualifications, including physical demands, working conditions, aptitudes, interests, temperaments, educational and training levels are profiled. Alternate employment options, commensurate with the individual's current functional levels are then determined using highly sophisticated computer technology. A Transferability of Skills Analysis also provides an appropriate intervention for the non-disabled working in organizations in the process of restructuring.
A Vocational Evaluation assesses a client's potential as it relates to a return to work. The client is assessed in the following areas: interests, academic achievement, work-related aptitudes, non-verbal abilities, specialized aptitudes and temperaments. The vocational evaluation is designed to obtain a Worker Qualification Profile for the client, which is compatible with the Canadian Classification and Dictionary of Occupations (CCDO)/National Occupational Classifications Counseling Version (NOC). The Worker Qualification Profile is then used to establish viable vocational options for the client. This profile may be designed to take into consideration the client's physical abilities as determined by a functional abilities evaluation (FAE), cognitive abilities and psychological limitations. A Labor Market Survey can be carried out in conjunction with this evaluation or as separate service.
